The four cities

Every route has its catch: a tunnel, a pedestrian zone, a market day. We know it before we set off.

Lucerne to Zurich: through the Knonaueramt into the city

Lucerne → Zurich · 53 km · approx. 45 minutes without traffic

The route

Along the A14 and the A4 through the Knonaueramt, then the Uetliberg tunnel into the city. We bypass the town of Zug on the way.

Arriving

The Niederdorf between Central and Bellevue is a pedestrian zone, and Bahnhofstrasse is closed to private traffic. We stop as close as the rules allow, at Central or Bellevue for example, and otherwise right outside your address.

The route

North on the A2, a short shared stretch with the A1, then west to Bern. For the Inselspital we take the Forsthaus exit, for BERNEXPO and the Wankdorf the Wankdorf exit.

Arriving

The lower Old Town is a shared zone with access for deliveries and visitors only. On Tuesday and Saturday mornings until 12:30 the market fills the Bundesplatz and the lanes, so we route around the centre.

Lucerne to Basel: the A2 through the Belchen

Lucerne → Basel · 96 km · approx. 70 minutes without traffic

The route

I arrived at Milan airport on 13 May 2024 and was met by the driver, Nelson. I was travelling with three other people, and since we had suitcases and were going to Lucerne in Switzerland, we thought it best to book Luzerner Taxi, and we were looked after extremely well. I recommend the company and highly recommend the driver: very attentive, polite, helpful, and he knows the route very well.Translated from Portuguese

Questions

Intercity transfer questions

How long is the drive from Lucerne to Zurich?

About 45 minutes to the city centre without traffic, on the A14 and the A4 through the Knonaueramt and the Uetliberg tunnel. At rush hour we allow extra time so you reach your meeting on time.

How long does it take from Lucerne to Bern?

About 80 minutes for roughly 112 kilometres, first on the A2, then on the A1. We drive straight to the entrance of the Inselspital, BERNEXPO or the Federal Palace by the shortest route.

How long is the ride to Basel?

About 70 minutes for 96 kilometres on the A2 through the Belchen tunnel. Traffic often backs up between Hagnau and Schweizerhalle before Basel, so we allow extra time for fairs and appointments.

Isn’t the train to Lugano faster?

Yes. At 1 hour 40 the train beats our roughly two hours by road. Our taxi pays off with lots of luggage, as a group, or when you want to arrive at your hotel door without changing.

What happens if there is a queue at the Gotthard?

The queue does not change the agreed price. On holiday dates we leave early or late, and we check in advance whether the tunnel is closed at night. From May to October the pass road is an option.

How much does an intercity transfer from Lucerne cost?

It depends on the destination and the vehicle. The booking form shows the price before you confirm, and on the phone we quote it up front. No meter runs on the way.

Can I book the return trip at the same time?

Yes. Tell us by phone or on WhatsApp when and where to collect you again, after the fair in Basel or an evening in Zurich, for example. Then both rides are firmly planned.

Do you drive at night when the trains have stopped?

Yes, around the clock. After the last train around midnight we collect you in Zurich, Bern or Basel and take you straight home, with no waiting for the first train in the morning.

Can I work on the way or make a stop?

Yes. Wi-Fi is available on request, so mention it when you book. Add a second pickup or a stop in the booking form, for example to collect a colleague on the way.

How many people and suitcases fit in the car?

The E-Class takes four people with three suitcases, the limousine six with five, and the minibus eight with seven. If more than eight of you are travelling, we send several vehicles.
